FotoFest organizes two professional development seminars during the Biennial to provide learning opportunities for photographers, photographic artists, and arts professionals.Conducted by some of the most respected photography experts in the field today, these seminars aggregate decades of invaluable information and practice to further professional careers and stimulate appreciation for the art of photography.

Organized by Shannon Ghannam and Amber Terranova of Magnum Photos, How Stories Choose Us is a two-part seminar focusing on the ways narratives arise within a photographic practice, how to identify those narratives and develop them into compelling projects. Ghannam will use examples of projects from Magnum photographers and other leading practitioners, followed by Terranova in conversation with Lindokuhle Sobekwa, Magnum photographer and FotoFest Biennial 2020 exhibiting artist.
