This series of images, entitled “ODYSSEY”, is the result of my trips through a fragile planet and comprises some of the latest additions to my series of photographs concerning the environment and the allure of the delicate balance and insight into life that Nature provides. I try to create images that are journeys into serenity and mindfulness, images that promote peaceful meditation on what lies in front of us and where it could lead us. The manipulated images borrow from Cubism, the technique of illustrating space volumetrically by moving through it to reveal alternate views of the same scene. In addition to the spatial reconstruction, this process adds an element of time to the works as the various components of the scene are photographed from different perspectives and different moments and later reassembled into a larger, more comprehensive, artistically expressive experience that beckons us to participate in the entirety of the scene, not just a single moment.

Tom Grill has been at the forefront of high-resolution digital photography and digital manipulation and believes that the post-production processing of imagery is part of the overall photographic process, much like the darkroom contributes to the full aesthetic of the film process of photography. Tom Grill has been a commercial photographer for over 40 years. In the last ten years, Tom’s work has focused more on landscape imagery that echoes the condition of our planet, and our life travels through it. He has created dramatic, manipulated image groupings that lead to exploring his subjects from a variety of perspectives. His images appear in both private and corporate collections, and he has won numerous awards for his works.
