Why do innocent people confess to crimes they did not commit? False confessions are one of the leading causes of wrongful convictions in the United States. Research shows that police coercive interrogation methods are often to blame. In collaboration with six exonerated individuals, who were previously imprisoned for crimes they did not commit due to false confessions, Robin Dahlberg reveals the powerful and often devastating tactics used in such interrogations. Juxtaposing portraits with interview text, the book examines why and how each person was brought to their breaking point and confessed to a crime they did not commit. Dahlberg's work is in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the New York Public Library and has received numerous international honors, including a shortlist nomination for the Dummy Award at the Fotobookfestival Kassel (2016).
