Initially introduced by the Prior in the Teutonic Order, photographer Roland Reinstadler gained access to the Lanegg Monastery in Lana, South Tyrol, Italy, granting him a rare glimpse behind the walls of a cloistered Monastery.
Inside he was granted access to photography the architecture, inhabitants and between the light and the shadows of what lies inside, working with the provincial superior of the Teutonic Order to give a rare glimpse into a cloistered convent and to spend time among the nuns and priests and to capture not only their everyday life but the moments in between and of their surroundings.
Roland Reinstadler said, 'This is a book about faith, the divine, and the lives of the friars and nuns of the Teutonic Order; and, at the same time, an attempt to shed light, through metaphorical images, on the more complex side of the Church. For me, it is also a very personal book and project, and perhaps even an attempt to come to terms with my past.'
