In an age of digital saturation, Elements of Wonder provides a vital escape, revealing the intricate patterns and hidden complexities of the natural world. Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art explores the inherent artistry of the natural world across scales, from the minute and intimate to the vast and monumental. Through patterns, textures, and abstracted forms, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down, experience a sense of awe, and reflect on the beauty, complexity, and fragility of the living earth—and our shared responsibility to protect it.

Decades of research in environmental psychology have shown that exposure to natural environments is associated with reduced stress, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive functioning. Experiences of awe—often sparked by encounters with nature—have also been shown to shift perception and deepen feelings of connection to the natural world.

To coincide with Earth Day, CENTER, the nonprofit photography organization based in Santa Fe, NM, presents Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art, a photographic exhibition by Jon McCormack. The exhibition will be on view at CENTER from April 17 through May 17, 2026, with an Opening Reception on Friday, April 17, 5:00 – 7:00 PM, and an Artist Talk on April 30, from 5:30 – 6:30 PM (MT).

ABOUT THE ARTIST • Jon McCormack is a photographer whose work is deeply informed by his upbringing in the stark, untamed landscapes of the Australian Outback, where early life among sheep and cattle fostered a profound respect for nature’s rhythms of resilience and fragility. Beginning as a teenager photographing quiet, often-overlooked moments in the bush, he developed a photographic voice rooted in patience, attention, and ecological empathy. Today, his images explore the intricate patterns and emotional textures of wild places, seeking to inspire both wonder and a sense of responsibility, and are widely published and used by global conservation organizations to advocate for the protection of fragile ecosystems.
