Experimental Photo Festival 2025. The biggest world event for avant-garde photography. Barcelona will host 68 workshops and 21 free exhibitions during the Experimental PhotoFestival.

From July 23 to 27, the city will become the epicenter of experimental photography with over 100 activities, including 68 workshops, 21 free exhibitions, and 18 conferences, featuring 61 internationally renowned artists. Supported by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council, this festival is a unique platform to explore the boundaries of photography between analog, digital, and boundless creativity.

Supported by the Culture Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Barcelona City Council, the Experimental Photo Festival returns to the city this July for its 6th edition, offering more than 100 activities to discover the future of photography, combining analog, digital, creativity, and play. Participants can now register for workshops led by 61 renowned artists and connect with the international community.

Barcelona, March 20, 2025.- Once again, Barcelona will become the world epicenter of avant-garde photography with the arrival of the Experimental Photo Festival.

The sixth edition of this unique event will take place during the month of July, with its main event taking place from the 23rd to the 27th. More than 8,000 visitors are expected to enjoy the free exhibitions, while more than 600 people will participate in workshops, both in person and online, taught by 61 international artists who will travel to the city to share their knowledge. Registration is now open, and this space will be an opportunity to learn and discuss the innovative frontiers of experimental photography.

Thanks to the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council, this year the festival It will offer a diverse and enriching program with 68 workshops, 18 conferences, and 21 free exhibitions open to the general public and all those interested in experimental photography, both in Spanish and English, as well as 3 portfolio review and a 10-day Experimental Artist Residency.

Organized by a non-profit cultural association committedto promoting and disseminating experimental photography, the festival isdistinguished by its transdisciplinary approach, exploring the connectionsbetween photography and other artistic disciplines such as film, painting, andmusic. This annual gathering not only allows international artists tocollaborate and share ideas, but also encourages innovation and experimentationin the field of photography. Activities will take place at the Pati Llimona CivicCenter and the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia, providing anideal space for exploring techniques and creative exchange. Under the directionof Laura Ligari and Pablo Giori, the festival reaffirms its commitment tofinancial transparency and gender equality, consolidating its position as abenchmark in the international photography community.

Featured artists and innovativeworkshops

During the festival, renowned experts inexperimental photography will share their techniques and creative processes.Among them, Jill Enfield (USA) will delve into the Van Dyke Brown print, whileElla Morton (Canada) will focus on black and white Mordaçage. Lokhandwala andBeenish Sarfaraz (India) will address alternative cartography applied tophotography. Jakub Gadek (Poland) will explore the relationship betweenPolaroid and artificial intelligence, and Ana Solo (Australia) will show how tocreate anthotype postcards. Céline Pilch (Germany) will combine double exposurewith pinhole photography and smartphones, and Sophie Sherwood (UK) willdemonstrate chemical painting using phytograms. Gabriele Coassin (Italy) willteach cyanotype on silver halide paper, and Marta Fábregas (Spain) will lead animage transfer workshop. Javier Talavera (Spain) will bring cyanotype to beachperformance, while Wendel Alves de Medeiros (Brazil) will explore urbanintervention in photography.

A program full of experiences

The festival will kick off July 4-6 with theopening of the free exhibitions and the 1stInternational Meeting of Photography Festivals. The IEFC-EXP International Experimentation Residency will take placefrom July 12-22. The main week of workshops and conferences will begin onTuesday, July 23, at 7:00 PM with the opening of a free exhibition. BeginningWednesday, July 23, daily activities will begin at 9:30 AM at the Pati Llimona CivicCenter and will run until 7:00 p.m., with workshops, talks, and debates. Eachevening, attendees will enjoy exhibition openings and cultural eventsthroughout the city, culminating with a seaside picnic on Sunday evening, July27th.
