Currently, I’m working on an individual project called La Otra Realidad (The Other Reality). I defined La Otra Realidad as conscious photography. I reflect on what is in my unconscious in a frame. Afterwards, when I look at that frame, I can connect with my unconscious and make it conscious. It is how I learn from myself and evolve through transforming the invisible into perceptible. In La Otra Realidad, I experiment through multiple exposures, forced film sensitivity, expired film, cinema film, light-painting with long exposures and film soup with various elements of daily life, such as salt, lemon and red wine. La Otra Realidad means to me the possibility to connect with a different perception of creation, permitting myself to continue learning through a conscious experience, allowing synchrony and magic to do their part in creating unique frames. It is like a leap into the void, in which I invite myself to release control, giving free rein to my creative channel when it matches with luck, looking forward to creating my own intuitive and sensory language.

About
My name is Gonzalo Rostán, 30 years old, from Montevideo, Uruguay. I’m studying Transpersonal Psychology, and I’m passionate about taking photographs with film cameras. I also have a degree as an accountant. My training is self-taught from a technical point of view, but I have also learned a lot from my colleagues and friends with whom I have shared throughout this time. My connection with photography started in 2016 while I was travelling the world in a 9-month aimless journey, and my rational mind resounded in unison with my creativity. During that trip, another way of comprehending reality was born within me, and analogue photography allowed me to express this new way of seeing. The analogue world offers me the chance to communicating through images the reality that often inhabits my mind and dreams. Surrealistic landscapes, inexplicable presences and revelations in which rationality and logical thinking are put aside to allow genuine expressions of light.
