The Covid pandemic, total closure and disruption of physical contact inspired me to look differently at my traditional themes of human loneliness and alienation. I felt that I needed more contrast. I want to talk about the lonely man bound by the constraints of quarantine, who is left in his space with his own thoughts and phobias. The alternative lith printing technique and the collage elements, for which I use negatives, enlarger, paper, paint, thread, dead insects and whatever is at hand, were perfect for this. "Our vibrant connections" is an ongoing series about an ongoing difficult time when pandemics have been replaced by war, social connections are cracked, and we are left with a thin red line attached to ourselves.

About
Mindaugas Gabrenas is a Lithuanian fine art photographer currently based in Paris. Her humanities and social sciences background has nurtured his interest in people: there's always a human presence in his pictures, even if barely perceptible. The author uses photography as a methodology for self-reflection. Personal states of solitude and perception of time are reflected in his works, and one could read them, depending on intensity, as poetry, prose or even an autobiography. The author pays much attention to the act of photography itself. He works in the traditional, non-digital, silver photographic medium using a variety of medium format film cameras, including handmade ones. His exquisite hand-crafted black and white prints, which he makes in his own darkroom, reflect a sense of calm and thorough originality. Mindaugas Gabrenas is an author of a number of personal and group exhibitions worldwide, and his works have been published in the global media.
