Since I was young, I have always been enamoured by space exploration and contemporary science fiction. The discovery of the relationship between our collective optimism about the future of space travel mixed with the realization that we came from stars was an interesting concept. As we learn more about how our planets and stars are made, we begin to learn more about how our human life was created and existed. Concepts created in science fiction are becoming realities. As Carl Sagan said, "We are a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star stuff." My images are created with NASA imagery taken from space, composited with self-portraits, and merged as if it is a part of what surrounds us.

About
Karen is a photographer based near Baltimore, Maryland. She has been involved in photography since she was very young, starting with the Pentax K1000. She enjoys exploring memories, real and imagined, analyzing the past and contemplating her place in the future. She likes to explore duality in her images: the good, the bad, the ugly and beautiful, the funny and sombre. Photography is a therapeutic journey for her as she explores her feelings, thoughts and memories and shares them with others.
