In my interdisciplinary practice, I blend the techniques of fashion, art, and documentary photography to create vivid contemporary human stories. My latest project includes members of local and immigrant Latin Queer communities from around the world. This project explores how the art of drag emphasises endless possibilities for self-creation and empowerment of identity.
To do this, my compositions often take intimate scenarios and disrupt them. For example, in my series Proud Humans, I photograph artists who use drag to create extraordinarily imaginative alter egos, from Aliens to Monsters to Dolls, in the intimate spaces of their everyday lives, merging the quotidian with futuristic narratives by spotlighting these alter egos. This project specifically reimagines concepts surrounding identity, beauty, and the ever-elusive self in defiance of gender binaries, especially in the Latin American context.
I consider storytelling my primary artistic medium. I interweave narrative and contemporary portraiture to redefine and demystify outdated definitions of the Queer community and its origins. By utilising a palette of eloquent visuals that depict personal spaces and incredible alter egos, my work reveals the vibrancy that emerges from the spaces between dualities.
