The photos Notturni, dialoghi tra luce ed oscurità were all taken between 2020 and 2021. Night and darkness are synonymous with ending, interruption and absence, especially in a period of uncertainty like this. To visualize these atmospheres, I decided to create a dialogue between the lights and the darkness of the night. The dark interiors are a metaphor for an uncertain and contradictory human condition. I chose to use only black and white images because to me, the images are a more synthetic expression of the dialogue between the dark and the light, and the contrast and impression of darkness stand out. The women and men in my images seem to suffer, and you can see their doubts about how adaptable they are, not just to personal destinies but more broadly to those of the communities to which we belong. The verses of Catullus: "Soles occidere et redire possunt, nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux nox est perpetua una dormienda." In English: "Suns may set and rise again. For us, when the short light has once set, remains to be slept the sleep of one unbroken night."
