My name is Claudio Ahlers, and I am a fine art and portrait photographer based in Bristol, UK. In my practise, I am interested in exploring emotional landscapes and states of mind through considered portraiture and artful photographs of the human body as an expression of our innermost workings.
My adventure with photography began when I was 12, and I started attending photography classes. Then photography faded into the shadows, replaced by other interests and searches of the young person. Three years ago, when I turned my interest toward press photography during my research work, I decided to use the camera again.
I was born and trained as a journalist in Venezuela, where I had my first contact with art through reading and writing. Then came frequent contact with visual artists and photographers, a passion for good cinema and my first attempts at photography. But it was my move to Brazil that led me to take photography seriously, to buy my first reflex camera and to enrol in a school, the Espaço F/508 de Cultura, in 2004.
